CHAPTER ONE
Eliza Hansen and Eric Johnson were walking together rushing to the park. . They had promised with their friends that they will be at the Black River Park at 5pm but now the time shows 5:15.
“We’re late!” Eric said, sighing.
“Yes, this is your fault!” Eliza accused.
“I said I’m sorry,” Eric said, eyeing at his best friend. Sometimes Eliza can be unreasonable.
“You know, you just like an owl!” Eliza started babbling “Sleeping during the day and stays up during the night.”
Eric sighed and just keeps his mouth shuts as he listened to Eliza’s babbling. Then he saw their friends and waved at them.
“Sorry we’re late,” Eric apologizes.
“Let me guess, you were sleeping to death,” Averill Lo, an American Chinese, with black curly hair and black eyes said, guessing.
“Ouch, that’s brutal!” Eric joked.
“C’mon, let’s go now if we don’t want to miss the intro,” Cliff Richard invited.
The teens were planning to watch two horror movies at Black River Cineplex. They quickly went to the bus stop and arrived just in time as the bus shows up. They quickly went into the bus and the bus start moving to the direction the teens want to go.
***
The movie ends around 2215 hour. The teens walked back home.
“The movie were scary than I thought,” Eliza commented.
“Really, I think the effects are not good and the ghost didn’t look real enough,” Frank Samuels, a tall, broad shoulder with blond spiky hair and blue eyes said, casually.
“Hmm... I thought I saw your face grew paler and your hand was shaking when the head came out from the grave,” Joshua Bristow teased. Joshua was half American and half African; he had a pair of brown eyes and black hair.
The rest of the group laughed.
“Hey, I’m not scared!” Frank protested.
“Josh’s right. I saw that too,” Eric chimed in and then grinned wickedly.
“Hey, cut it out!” Frank demanded and started to scowl when they laughed at him.
“Uhhh...guys,” Suddenly Averill broke the laugh. Her voice was shaking.
“What is it?” Eliza asked, holding Averill’s shoulder.
“Speaking of grave, I think we have to use a road through the cemetery right?”
They stopped walking at once.
“Yeah, you are right Ave,” Cliff agreed.
The rest of the group looked at each other. Each of them showed a worry and anxious expressions.
“Argh, I don’t like cemetery during the day and I double hate it during the night,” Frank admitted, fretfully.
“Is there other road we can take?” Joshua asked.
“No, I’m afraid not,” Eric answered.
“Hey, it’s ok. We’re not alone,” Cliff said, tried to remain calm. “We have each other.”
“Let’s go. It’s getting late if we standing here,” Eliza invites.
They continued walking until they reached the cemetery front gate.
Eric went to open the gate and the six of them walked in. Averill walked between Frank and Joshua while Eliza walked between Eric and Cliff. When they came to the graves, Eliza suddenly grabs hold Eric’s hand. Her action caught Cliff’s attention. The cool expression changed into a scowl. Eric who noticed the changes on Cliff’s face just shrugged.
Frank who was walking glancing right and left all the time suddenly saw something. He froze in his steps. Averill and Joshua who were walking behind him bumped into him.
“Hey Frank, what’s wrong?” Averill asked.
“Look! Over there!” Frank exclaimed, pointing at one of the grave.
“What is it?” Cliff asked, went nearer to Frank and looked directly at the place pointed by Frank.
“Look there! There’s something moving behind the stone,” Frank shrieked.
“HUH!!” The others turned promptly, to take a look at what Frank had pointed. They saw nothing.
“I didn’t see anything,” Eliza said.
“Yeah, me too,” Eric agreed.
“Me three,” Frank chimed in.
“What??” The others looked at him, disbelief.
“Really, I saw something was moving over there,” Frank insisted.
“Maybe it just a statue or something,” Cliff said, being practical as he usually were during the tense situation. Usually in the group, Cliff always acts like big brother to everyone. Sometimes his friends will be okay with the attitude but most of the occasion, the attitude drive them into the wall.
“Yeah, maybe Cliff’s right,” Averill agreed.
“You just imagined things,” Joshua added.
“You’d just watched two horror movies. Maybe it runs in your mind,” Eliza said, patted Frank’s shoulder.
“Maybe you are right Eliza,” Frank admitted.
“C’mon let’s get out of here. It gives me the creeps,” Eliza said, walking away. The others followed her close. They quicker their paces and didn’t dare to look back until they were totally safe and sound out from the cemetery. Then they jogged all the way from there to their houses.
